Cerussiet is een lood carbonaat en was één van de hoofdbestanddelen van loodverf. Het is vernoemd naar het Latijnse cerussa, wat wit lood betekent. Elizabeth I van England gebruikte cosmetica waarin cerussiet verwerkt zit.[1]
